Zombie in Corfu

A Violet Cross Magical Mystery — Book 1

Sophie Victor

A sapphic cozy paranormal mystery series with humour, romance and supernatural chaos.

A down-and-out ex-spy, a magical Mediterranean village, and a zombie on the loose…

When the town volunteers reluctant ex-agent Violet Cross to hunt the zombie, distractingly beautiful werewolf Maggie offers to help. Violet must resist temptation as she interrogates the townsfolk in a race to find the zombie’s maker before her old agency arrives, ready to expose the secret of why she was fired and destroy the only place she’s ever called home.

A cosy, slightly chaotic, paranormal mystery filled with humour, flirting, and the existential, inescapable dread of maybe having to see ex-colleagues…

What readers say

“witty, charming and exciting… eagerly waiting to read more of Violet”

Elizabeth Pitt, Amazon review

“I adore this cute little mystery series. I love how short the books are and that I can blast through them in one sitting. Even though they are short they still manage to be packed with witty remarks, romance, and of course a mystery.”

Chapter One — Daisy’s Cat

An excerpt…

It’s a beautiful day in Corfu, though you wouldn’t know it by looking at my face. I sweep my brown wavy hair into a loose ponytail and drag my sweaty hand across the back of my sweaty neck. For all the good that it does.

“What can you see?” Daisy, a half-troll, peers over my shoulder at the grass, her hot breath smelling of sweet mint. She trails a finger up my back, not the first time she’s come on to me, and leans a little closer. Her hair brushes my shoulder, and I step away under the guise of coughing. She is very pretty, undeniably, but blondes aren’t my type.

I refocus on her lawn, examining the pink roses that line the picket fence, the broken lock on the gate, and the footprints that lead only out, not in. Boots, wide, like those a man would wear.

“It seems that whoever stole Tiddles came in via a different entrance, or flew,” I say, turning round and almost crashing into her. I move back warily to reclaim my personal space. Daisy doesn’t get the hint and steps forward, her blue eyes wide and sad.

Sophie Victor, sapphic cosy fantasy and paranormal mystery author

I write fantasy and paranormal fiction – the real world is too sad, too mundane, too predictable, and too limited by the boundaries of physics – with themes of mystery (got to have something to work those little grey cells), and romance (because, honestly, what is life without love?).

My books are beautifully queer, because I am, but don’t worry, there is some straight representation. And they’re ND-coded: dry observational wit and delicious tangents, social-awkwardness and the insatiable search for dopamine…
